Cruiser Bicycles

beach cruiser

Cruiser bicycles are noted for their durability. This is a single speed bike, heavy frame and balloon tires. Today, these are very popular for their style, comfort and cheaper prices compare to other popular bikes.

During the great depression, Schwinn developed an affordable bicycle that looked like a motorcycle, the cruiser. It quickly became the most popular bike. Other companies like Huffy and Roadmaster, started to make their own models.

By the 1960s other types of bicycles started to become more popular. Lighter bicycles with more speeds like the road bicycle; or others like lowrider bikes and BMX. Cruiser popularity went down but it kept selling as utility and beach bike. Companies started to manufacture these bikes focusing on those functions and the term ‘beach cruiser’ was born.

By the 1980s, the interest of riders for racing on rough terrains, made the cruiser regain popularity. Road bikes couldn’t stand a chance off road so riders started to look for better and cheaper solutions. Cruisers were more durable, prices were cheaper and balloon tires very strong. Soon riders started adding breaks and gears, from other types of bikes, to their old cruisers and like that, the cruisers were back.

Through the years their popularity kept going up. Style, comfort and better prices only helped. Companies reproduce more cruisers in the 90s; even Harley-Davidson licensed one of them with their style and logo. Soon people, not only from old generation young generations too, were attracted to these bikes. More companies started to join on the developing of cruisers and today almost every manufacturer have their own model.

So now you know, if you are looking for comfort and style, cruiser bikes are for you. This bike will last you a long time and you will be able to ride it on different terrains without trouble.
